Dated accolades? Bin them!

Trophy

I was driving behind a lorry yesterday that boldly proclaimed on its rear end 'Haulier of the year 1999'. It washed over me for a while until I suddenly thought - "that's 17 years ago!" Dear lord, get the quick-removing hair dryer on that vinyl lettering at once!

If your awards are anything over 5 years old, I'd go so far as to say they don't count any more. Change your marketing to say 'award-winning' by all means (but be prepared for a slight blush when you have to explain why if you're not fully confident) but take off references to the actual year. Especially if a child could have grown up, taken its GCSEs, had their first fag and started driving lessons in the time you're talking about. 17 years, oh dear.
